I've played both, and both suck!

But I like Guild Wars better

It's pretty hard to compare them since they're completely different games. You could compare Hellgate to D2, or Guild Wars to WoW, but probably not to each other.

My boyfriend and I play both GW and HGL and what others have said is true. They are 2 completely different game experiences. I enjoy both games.

Only thing in common is instanced gameplay really.

Besides, that shit's obviously biased as hell. :/

Well, they are both shooters and can be found on the same console, so yes, CoD4 and Halo 3 can be compared.

CoD is typically more tactical, Halo is more run and gun. Different game styles like hellgate and gw.

I enjoy playing both together with my girlfriend. Guild Wars is much more stable, more relaxed and certainly a lot larger than hellgate, with more class versatility and much better defined classes. On hellgate you'll find yourself playing two classes of the same faction and really thinking hmm, these are incredibly similar. On hellgate the action is more fast paced, and the items you find are a lot more rewarding than Guild Wars on the whole; from an hours' play say you may find some very intersting and unique items where on guild wars you'll have an inventory full of white non-max merchant fodder. Also the freedom of movement is a lot better in Hellgate; jumping, moving around and aiming weapons and spells and such. Sometimes it's nice to relax and just click your way through guild wars though (although I can only do that with a few professions, have to use numbers and mouse to monk or interrupt for example). Both games have a lot to offer in their own unique way. Guild Wars also offers much more interesting scenery and storylines on the whole; but soon they do plan to add new textures and levels to Hellgate in the upcoming big December Patch

The way that people play CoD4 multi player (on the PC) is completely run and gun. Playing "Shipment" on Free-for-all is insane! I can't speak for Halo though (don't have a 360).

First comparison, where it came out to be Guild Wars, and the writer exclaimed his approval...I stopped taking it seriously. The comparo was orchestrated in GW's favor.

Actually, I play both WoW and GW and I think they're apples to oranges as well...

Eitherway, I agree. Biased article.

Hellgate was such a big let down, play the game for 15 minutes and you've already experienced all it has to offer.

Terribad is an understatement.

They're actually more highly comparable than you'd think.

In terms of which to recommend to a friend, I'd say Guild Wars. Moreso even with how it's priced these days. It's much deeper and complex, not to mention all the content you can purchase for under 60 bucks.
